I can't tell you how much I enjoyed reading this book!

Although it's a novella I wasn't expecting for it to be so long (or at least to reach pass 200 pages!). But didn't I always want more from short novellas I come across? Well of course, so I got what I wanted, right?

So we here we have the hero, William Benton, who is the second son of a Lord. He's smart, handsome, hands on, responsible, and well....the turned steward of his former home. Why? you ask. Well, his brother or father apparently lost sold away their land in a drunken game of chance uproar. Now he's determined to get his family's land back and to do that he has decided to win the hand of his employee's daughter; even if he has to resort to a seduction to get her there.

Josephine Lawton, the beautiful elder daughter of Lord Lawton is wild, lack propriety, interesting, and is a spinster! Too wild and different from her fairer sex, she finds it difficult fitting into London society and now, also in the country. But she has always fancy the handsome steward in the country from a close distance until one festival night where her dreams were dashed. But now her father is eager to wed her off even calling one in from Scotland to whisk her away. What for her to do? So she plans to tame her wild soul if she wants to get married to the Scot and learn to be a proper lady. But at least the steward and her are on speaking terms again, but he seems determined on something, but what is it?

The characters are loveable! Even the man Josephine is supposed to be engaged too, the Scot! That was highly uncalled for! I actually wanted him, Mr. Alastair Montgomery, to be with the heroine or at least with the nanny or Megan, Jo's younger sister. I really loved his frankness and honesty with Jo and how they speak openly about their opinions and thoughts on things, and how they are most definitely on the same page of things. He's smart honest and sincere, and well, I like him a lot! I would most definitely love to see a book dedicated to him, no doubt!

The story was super sweet and fast paced. These two characters has known each other for about five years and has smothered their feelings as best they can. And of course there would be obstacles in the way and it's highly understandable to the reasons why there would be difficulty between a steward and a Miss, let alone someone trying to get his family land back.

Will is just adorable! I love everything he has done though some weren't liked but highly understandable do to some circumstances. I love that he's honor bond and even as the second son tried to take charge and do the best he could for the village and its residents, going as far as to defend Lord Lawton and his family, against his dismay at the lost family land.

I guess I Loved everything about it this book because I don't remember what I didn't like, though at one point I did lose interest, somewhere, but over all everything was Fantastic! I most definitely love their conversations! Between Jo and Will and between Jo and Alastair! These conversations were what made me love them~

But of course the next book is about the missing Benton Heir and brother so I can not wait for it! And of course Jade, you should write a book for Alastair! I bet I'm not the only one asking for it :D

I liked this story for the most part. The characters are fairly well developed for a short story, but there wasn't much in the plot department. London gentleman's daughter is nearly on the shelf because she's just too outspoken and independent and is secretly courted by the steward of her family's summer property in Yorkshire. The steward is the second son of the family who owned that very property ( the adjacent town is still named after his family ) until his older brother sold it out from under them and disappeared. The wealthy Londoner won't consider the steward as a proper suitor and, unknown to the daughter, refuses him permission to court her every year. Unknown to her father, the young lady and her steward still meet in "their" spot all summer long and have developed a strong friendship. This year, another peer has come to the house as a suitor, which pushes the friendship into becoming something more. Since the Yorkshire property is to be her dowry, how will the lady know who wants her for herself, and who just wants her land?

Heat factor hot.
I was surprised for being a novella, the story and the characters were well developed nothing was missing or lacking. I like that this keep you guessing it had a unpredictable plot.

Ok so lets get started this book is about William Benton the second son of a once wealthy family who serves as steward on the land his brother should have inherited but lost in a game. Josephine Lawton the oldest daughter of the new owner. She is beautiful but she expected to marry a man with a title and money. She becomes engaged to a man who has one Mr. Alastair Montgomery. William and Josephine have feelings for each other but because of their stations in life they see it as impossible. This is a story of how they come together. They finally can show the feeling they have for each other that they have be hiding. I really like this book. I thought it was different then most similar book. the Author Jade Lee has real talent. Good job!!!
I really liked this story despite it being a novella. The story is quite simple two people from different backgrounds and stations falling for each other but yet feel the same inside. The story seemed at first slow but definitely picked up speed and had several interesting plot twists even with it short length. The heroine and hero were great and very well-developed too.
Josephine the heroine is such a wonderful spirited character I couldn’t help but like her. Even though she seems to laugh most easily and enjoy life with some unpleasant things happening to her. Josephine struggles to be a proper lady and all the constraints that come with it. She attempts each time to be a lady but fails miserably yet she also rebels against it too. On the other hand the hero Will took a while for me to even like as a character. I didn’t see what Josephine saw in him or even their attraction until he kisses her even though they meet secretly. He just seemed so harsh at first to Josephine and seemed to spite everyone else that I didn’t understand him at all. It seemed he had insurmountable odds Josephine’s parents, her up-coming arranged marriage plus the demands on him to prove himself to everyone including Josephine who could care less about any of that. Everything seemed to be working against him to even pursue and win her hand in marriage just because of who he is. I think the one thing I found about Will that I admired was that yes he could be mean to Josephine but he really did love her and didn’t try to change who she was.
Ms. Jade Lee even had some other great side characters in the novella that were also well-developed too. Even though I had a hard time liking Will’s character I still enjoyed the story and found hardly any spelling errors in it. It was well-written and thought out that it was a joy to read. That is the reason for the four star rating. I will read another book by Ms. Lee.
